Beltangady, Jan 2: It has come to light that the motorcycle engulfed in flames on December 31 on Church Road belongs to a head constable. Suspicion arises that the stolen motorcycle caught fire and was abandoned on Church Road before the thief made their escape.

Local residents observed the burning motorcycle in the afternoon on December 31 near St Theresa School on Church Road in the town. They promptly used water to extinguish the fire, but the owner's details were unknown. The Beltangady police station was informed by the locals, and upon arrival, the police took the motorcycle into custody.

After obtaining the engine number and details from the RTO, it was revealed that the bike belonged to a police head constable from Uppinangady. The constable had sold the motorcycle four days prior to a man in Uppinangady. The buyer, having parked the motorcycle near Ajilamogaru mosque in Bantwal while offering namaz, discovered it missing upon his return. He reported the incident to the motorcycle owner, who then lodged a complaint with the Uppinangady police station on December 30.
