Mangaluru, Jan 3: In a press conference held on Wednesday, January 3, R Padmaraj, general secretary of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, accused the BJP of relying on divisive issues such as love jihad and anti-communal propaganda for political gain. He emphasized the need for responsible governance focused on growth rather than divisive politics.
Addressing the recent arrests in Hubballi, Padmaraj claimed that they were based on Locally Prevailing Conditions (LPC) and questioned why the BJP did not resolve such matters when in power. He urged the BJP to refrain from politicizing the inauguration of the Ram Mandir on January 22, emphasizing that the construction followed legal procedures. Padmaraj criticized the central government for pressuring the state government to declare a holiday on January 22 and suggested that if it was crucial, the central government should announce it as a national holiday.
Padmaraj refuted claims that Congress opposes the Ram Mandir due to the Hubballi arrests, clarifying that the charges were LPC, allowing detention for questioning until the case is resolved. He highlighted Congress's positive contributions, such as arranging buses to Sabarimale and conducting 'Gow Pooja' during Diwali. Padmaraj questioned why the BJP prolonged the matter for the arrest of two individuals.
Responding to comparisons between Lord Ram and Siddaramaiah, Padmaraj defended the individual's right to perceive leaders positively, stating that if one considers Siddaramaiah as god, there is no issue.
Addressing questions about statements concerning Hanuman made by Congress members, Padmaraj asserted that the matter is being politicized. He highlighted the chief minister's statement welcoming anyone with an invitation to attend the mandir's inauguration.
Regarding the Hubballi arrest, Padmaraj deemed the case complicated and stressed that if the arrested individuals are innocent, they should present themselves in court to resolve the matter legally.
Congress leaders Uday Acharya, Rakesh Devadiga, Keshav, Chetan Kumar, Yogesh, Prem, along with Padmaja and Shantala, were present.
