Puttur, Jan 3: In an alarming incident in Kemminje village on the outskirts of Puttur, a woman was discovered locked in a room for three months by her husband, allegedly due to claims of being possessed by a ghost.
The Women and Child Welfare Department officials, upon learning of the situation, promptly visited the site, freed the woman from confinement, and arranged for her admission to the hospital for necessary treatment.
The victim, Asha Latha, had been kept secluded for three months by her husband Shripathi Hebbar, citing that she was getting possessed by a ghost. Shripathi Hebbar, a cook, and Asha Latha, belonging to the Vishwakarma community, had an inter-caste marriage. During her confinement, she was provided with minimal sustenance, receiving tea and biscuits only once.
Following a complaint from the concerned locals, authorities conducted a rescue operation, ensuring the woman's safety and well-being.
