Kundapur: Kota Suresh conferred with ‘Srinivasa Udupa’ award

Kundapur, Jan 5: Kota Suresh Bangera, resident of Matpadi Thittu, Yakshagana artiste of Kota Amritheshwari Mela is conferred with the Udupa award for the year 2023-24 that is given away by Saligrama Makkala Mela trust in memory of national award winning teacher Later Karkada Srinivasa Udupi, one of the founders of world renowned Saligrama Makkala Mela.

Suresh has inculcated the speaking style of legend of Yakshagana Shiriyara Manju Naika, stepping style of Guru Veerabhadra Naik and stage techniques of Molahalli Hiriya Naik. He is in his second year with Yaksharanga. He has donned historical characters like Sudhanwa, Pushkala, Shubranga, Martandateja, Arjuna, Krishna, Thamradwaja and Parashurama. Suresh has served the Yakshagana art for more than 36 years in various troupes like Saukuru, Saligrama, Perdoor, Kamalashile and Amritheshwari.

The award will be presented to Suresh on February 11 at the yard of Kota Patela house in the presence of eminent personalities with cash prize of Rs 10000. This decision was taken by the award committee consisting of founder director H Sridhara Hande, working president of the trust Mahesh Udupa M, president Balarama Kalkura and vice president Janardhana Hande.
