Kadaba, Jan 6: Golden ornaments worth Rs two lac and Rs three lac in cash were stolen from the residence of Yakub in Kalayi, Koila village, in the night on January 4.

Yakub and his family had secured the house and attended a religious programme at Atoor Badriya mosque at 7 pm. Thieves broke the lock of the front door, gaining access to the residence. They took Rs three lac in cash from a Godrej cupboard in the bedroom, along with six golden finger rings weighing 30 grams and earrings worth 10 grams from another room.

Yakub's elder son, who owns a bakery in Bengaluru, had visited on December 30, providing Rs three lac in cash to his father. The cash was stored in the Godrej. Notably, the thieves missed a four-sovereign golden chain placed near the cash.

Around 8 pm, neighbour Nasir alerted Yakub that his house door was open. Nasir discovered the theft, and the police were immediately informed. There are suspicions that locals may be involved in the robbery.

The thieves also attempted to enter the house of Abdul Kunhi, Yakub's brother, located next to Yakub’s house, but failed to find any valuables in the ransacked cupboard.

A canine squad and fingerprint experts from Mangaluru inspected the houses. DySP, Uppinangady rural SI, Kadaba SI, and personnel conducted a spot inspection at the scene.
