Mangaluru, Jan 8: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has directed the district administration of Dakshina Kannada to initiate the necessary steps to commence a cruise service to Lakshadweep from the city.
Currently, tourists can access Lakshadweep from Kochi in Kerala by ship or flight. People from around the world must pass through Kochi to reach Lakshadweep. However, the island is closer to Mangaluru than Kochi. Even now, various goods such as building materials, fruits, and vegetables are shipped to Lakshadweep from the old port of Mangaluru.
In the past, a cruise liner operated from Mangaluru to Lakshadweep, offering tickets at a nominal price of Rs 250 to 300. Additionally, a separate tour package was available. Unfortunately, this service has been discontinued for several years. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has brought to the attention of the deputy commissioner the keen interest expressed by netizens through social media in visiting Lakshadweep. In this regard, MP Nalin has urged the deputy commissioner to take the necessary steps based on the information provided by his office.
