Mangalore: Stany Alvares Elected President of Mandd Sobhann

Mangalore, Sep 13: Mandd Sobhann, a premiere organisation working for the welfare of Konkani language and community, which had organised a 25-day World Konkani Cultural Convention recently, has elected Joachim Stany Alvares as its new president.

Stany Alvares, who has been actively involved with Mandd Sobhann for the past 23 years, is a well-known figure in the Konkani community because of his leadership traits.

The other office-bearers are:

Mandd Sobhann, has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for its marathon singing feat by multiple singers, known as `Konkani Nirantari' and is in the year of its silver jubilee.

Konkani is a wonderful language and has a great history.
Mandd Sobhann is a premiere organisation working for the welfare of Konkani language and community and it has done so much to promote Konkani.

I am very happy to have friends who speak Konkani and appreciate Konkani culture so much.

A long time ago I got in touch with Konkani culture and the language and one day I had the opportunity to learn Konkani.
Indian friends who live and work in Oldenburg taught me Konkani for several years. I enjoyed learning Konkani and one day I was able to speak and to discuss fluently in Konkani and to read books in Konkani.
Since then I am in love with the culture and language and through Skype I can speak Konkani with friends in Mangalore, Chennai and Pondicherry on a regular basis.
Knowing the culture and language opens the hearts of Konkani speaking people and one can make friends.
Friendships which last for a lifelong.
And not only the culture and language is important what counts is the same faith (Konkani Catholics in Mangalore).
Attending a mass in Konkani is a deep spiritual experiecne for a foreigner like me.

It makes life rich to know different cultures and to appreciate them.
