Bengaluru, Jan 8: A national convention on Constitution and National Unity is being held in the city under the joint auspices of Institute of Social and Economic Change (ISEC) and National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru and the State Government to mark 75 years since the adoption of Indian Constitution in February.        

A high-level meeting to finalize the preparations for the convention was held under the chairmanship of chief minister Siddaramaiah at his home office of Krishna in Bengaluru on Monday.         

The meeting decided to organize a ‘Constitution Awareness Jatha’ on Republic Day, January 26 as part of the preparations for the celebration.         

The Jatha will traverse all Grama Panchayats in the state to create awareness on the importance of Constitution and National Unity besides staging short films and documentaries and other publicity material.         

The convention will be held on February 24 and 25 at the Bengaluru Palace Grounds and the programmes will be held under the aegis of the education department as well as rural development and Panchayat Raj department.        

Seminars and science exhibitions will also be held as part of the convention.

Rural development and Panchayat Raj minister Priyank Kharge, social welfare minister Dr H C Mahadevappa, law and parliamentary affairs minister H K Patil, food and civil supplies minister K H Muniyappa, health and family welfare minister Dinesh R Gundu Rao, chief minister’s additional chief secretary L K Atiq, chief minister’s political secretary K Govindaraju, social welfare department principal secretary P Manivannan and others participated in the meeting.
