Bengaluru, Jan 8: JDS leader H D Kumaraswamy has attacked women and children’s welfare minister Laxmi Hebbalkar over her statement that Belagavi was part of Maharashtra before Independence and has asked chief minister Siddaramaiah to advise his ministers not to make controversial statements.

Addressing the media persons at the party office on Monday, the JDS leader criticized the minister for making controversial and irrelevant statements, which might create needless controversies.

“Hebbalkar may be enamoured of Maharashtra and therefore, raising issues that have long been settled and Belagavi has become part of Karnataka,” he said asking Siddaramaiah to advise his ministers to be careful in their public utterances.

The JDS leader said the impact of the Congress government’s pre-election Guarantees has been admitted by the chief minister’s economic advisor Basavaraj Rayareddy, who has admitted that development works have suffered due to the guarantees.

Eight months have elapsed since the formation of the government but the developmental works have suffered. The government has admitted that the drought conditions have resulted in a loss of Rs 30000 crore and the chief minister promised Rs 2000 each to farmers to tide over the crop losses. The government has now released a paltry Rs 105 crore, which is too meager and insufficient, he added.
