Bantwal, Jan 11: In a series of pickpocketing incidents plaguing B C Road bus station, a woman fell victim to theft as Rs 4,000 was snatched from her bag. The incident occurred recently, highlighting the persisting issue of cash theft at the bus station.
The victim, identified as Prema, was en route to Dharmasthala from Boliyar. Reportedly, the theft occurred when she alighted at B C Road, holding her child and boarding the Dharamsthala-bound bus.
A formal complaint has been lodged at the Bantwal town police station in connection with the incident.
Lack of CCTV surveillance
Despite detailed reports submitted on the matter, the police department has not yet responded, leaving incidents of theft and pickpocketing to continue unchecked. The absence of CCTV cameras at the location was cited by the police when notifying the complainant. Reports suggest that pickpocketing is occurring regularly, with the police advising the public to exercise caution.
In the past week, numerous instances of mobile phone thefts and pickpocketing have taken place, yet the police department remains silent. The incidents reportedly transpire in broad daylight, even as traffic police operate at a bus stand quite distant from the police department. Public demand punishment for the culprits under the law to deter future theft cases.
