Kundapur, Jan 12: Kundapur taluk Autorickshaw and vehicle drivers’ association, Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU), staged protests in front of the office of Tahsildar here on Friday January 12 urging the union government to withdraw hit-and-run cases brought under the Criminal Act in accordance to Indian Penal Code 2023.
The Act imposes Rs seven lac fine and ten years of jail term to the drivers convicted in hit-and-run cases.
CITU taluk convener and organizing secretary of the sangha, Chandrashekar V addressed the protesters. President of the sangha, Ramesh V, chief secretary Raju Devadiga, vice president N Umesh, Ravindra Shetty, Krishna Poojary, Govinda Gudara Haklu, Arun Kumar, Janardhan Hattiangadi, Keshava Parijata, treasurer Santhosh Kallagar and Ravi V M took part in the protests.
