Shivamogga’s Freedom Park Stadium to be named after Allama Prabhu

Shivamogga, Jan 12: The 12th century mystic saint and poet Allama Prabhu, who was born in Shikaripur taluk of Shivamogga district and is a contemporary of Basavanna, will get the honour of the Freedom Park Stadium to be named after him, announced chief minister Siddaramaiah in Shivamogga on Friday. 

Speaking at the launch of the Congress government’s fifth pre-election guarantee of Yuva Nidhi, offering monthly payment of Rs 3000 each to unemployed graduates and Rs 1500 a month to unemployed diploma holders for two years, he said he is happy to launch the Yuva Nidhi on Swamy Vivekananda’s birth anniversary. 

Swamy Vivekananda is known as the sage who spoke Hinduism at the world conference of religions in Chicago of US and said he has no faith in the religion which does not feed its followers, he said and asserted that he was very proud to launch Yuva Nidhi to give new hope to the unemployed youth. 

Siddaramaiah said Congress Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had started the Vivekananda Jayanti celebrations in 1985 and said the State Government was following the teachings of Swamy Vivekananda and delivers social justice to the people besides feeding the hungry.

The chief minister said Allama Prabhu was the first architect of democracy and rule of people. A contemporary of Basavanna, he was instrumental in establishing Anubhava Mantapa. “Our government is happy to honour this great 12th century poet and saint, who hails from Shivamogga district, by naming the Freedom Park Stadium after him,’’ he declared amid thunderous cheers from the audience.
