Mangaluru, Jan 14: The Karnataka state government and the youth empowerment and sports department of the state will take suitable action to boost Kambala as a sport and also construct a playground in Naringana besides releasing financial grants for the sport, said minister for youth empowerment, sports, and tribal welfare B Nagendra.
Speaking at a meeting held at the Mittakodi Sarath Kajava Forum held under the auspices of Naringana Lava-Kush Jodukare Kambala Committee of Ullal taluk after taking part in the second year Honalu Lava-Kusha Jodukare 'Naringana Kambalotsava, the minister said the government had released Rs 1 crore to promote Kambala when it was hosted in Bengaluru adding that it was ready to spend more on encouraging Kambala as a sport in the coastal districts.
Assembly Speaker U T Khader said Kambala is a sport thatunites people of all castes and religions adding that it is a symbol of harmony.
Former minister Ramanatha Rai, MLA Harish Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Mullai Mugilan, Sports Commissioner Sasikumar, president of Kanachur Educational Institutions Dr U Kanachur Monu, KPCC secretary Mithun Rai, Intak State president Rakesh Malli, DK Milk Producers' Union president Sucharita Shetty, Manjanadi Dargah president Abdul Aziz Mysore Bava, DK District Bus Owners Association president Aziz Parthippadi, Mumbai businessman Vivek Shetty. Chandrahasa Shetty, Rakshit Shivaram, managing director of D Comforts Inn, Bolyaguttu, Deralakatte. Rohit Hegde of Padmavati, Katapadi Kambala participated.
On this occasion, Mittakodi Venkappa Kajava and Umesh Mahabala Shetty Manisagu, who led the Lava-Kush Kambala for 25 years in Pajeerugedagebile, were honoured.
