Udupi/Mangaluru, Jan 15: Devotees in large numbers thronged the main temples of coastal districts on Sunday on account of Makara Sankranti festival.

Kukke Sri Subramanya, Shree Kshethra Dharmasthala, Sautadka Sri Mahaganapati temple, Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari temple, Udupi Sri Krishna Math and Kollur Sri Mookambika temple saw a big rush of devotees arrived from all over the state and outstation states also.

As Saturday and Sunday were government holidays the rush was more. Monday also the devotees are expected to visit temples in large numbers as it is a special veneration day of Lord Shiva. Additional bus services are offered by KSRTC. At Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala devotees stood in long queue till night and took the darshan of Lord Manjunatha.

Huge number of devotees are visiting Kollur Sri Mookambika temple. On Sunday more than 10000 visitors took darshan of Goddess Sri Mookambika. The crowd included Lord Aiyappa devotees, school childen and devotees from outstation states. All lodges including the private ones were full.

In a publication, temple authorities of Maranakatte Sri Brahmalingeshwara temple said that all preparation are done for various puja offerings of Makara Sankramana that will begin on January 15 at the temple. Action is taken to provide a smooth visit for devotees arriving from Udupi, Kundapur, Uttara Kannada, Byndoor and Shivamogga in large numbers.
