Udupi: Man loses Rs 1.39 crore in deceptive investment scheme

Udupi, Jan 16: A resident of Alevoor, Udupi, identified as Venkataramana, fell victim to an online fraud, resulting in a loss of Rs 1.39 crore. The complainant was contacted by strangers on WhatsApp who lured him into the promise of increased profits through online trading.

The scammers provided a link to Venkataramana, who clicked on it and downloaded an app named Choice Equity Broking Private Limited. Subsequently, between December 5, 2023, and January 9, 2024, he transferred Rs 1,38,99,000 to various bank accounts as instructed by the fraudsters in multiple phases.

Despite the financial investment, the accused failed to deliver any promised profits and did not return the invested amount.

A case has been registered in connection with this incident at the CEN police station under IPC 420.
