Udupi: Take care to prevent deaths of mothers and infants in district – DC to officials

Udupi, Jan 16: “Create awareness about the precautions before and after delivery of the child, provide health facilities and take care to see that there are no deaths of mothers and infants in the district,” said deputy commissioner Dr K Vidya Kumari.

She was speaking after presiding over the meeting of the health department coordination committee, T B forum meeting, district-level vaccination advisory committee meeting, district observation committee meeting, registration of private hospitals authority meeting, voluntary blood task force meeting and other committees at the deputy commissioner’s auditorium.

“Pregnant women should be issued cards right at the beginning for treatment. Two mothers and 51 infants have died from July 2023 till the end of December in the district. There were 9,169 deliveries of which 6,422 deliveries were in private hospitals and the remaining 2,747 happened in government hospitals. As many as 3,902 deliveries were normal and 5,267 were surgical deliveries. Doctors should try for normal deliveries,” she said.

“A total of 1,954 Covid-19 tests were conducted in the district. There were two positive cases of Covid-19. The doctors should ensure sufficient supply of beds, ICU, oxygen facilities and medicines,” she said.

“As much as 32,576 tests for TB were conducted in the district. There were 1,578 TB cases. Details of medical expenses should be shown in every hospital in the district as per KPME Act. The charges should be collected accordingly. Beds should be reserved for Ayushman Bharath beneficiaries and suitable treatment should be provided," the DC said.

There were 13,806 dog bite cases during 2022. Their number was 17,733 last year. There were 314 cases of snake bites. "Ensure that H1N1 contagious diseases do not spread,” she said.

Additional deputy commissioner Mamatha Devi G S, district health and family welfare officer Dr I P Gadar, district AIDS control officer Dr Chidananda Sanju, Dr Latha Nayak, district Malaria controller Dr Prashanth Bhat, district observer Dr Nagarathna, Dr Joshna, taluk medical officers and others were present.
