Udupi, Jan 17: The vibrant temple city of Udupi is buzzing with anticipation, adorned with sparkling lights and an air of excitement as the countdown begins for the highly-awaited Puttige Vishwageetha Paryaya 2024. The entire city has transformed into a tapestry of colours, mirroring the festive fervour that has engulfed the citizens of Udupi.

The residents of Udupi have spared no effort in decking up their homes and the streets, creating a mesmerising panorama of lights and decorations. The enchanting glow emanating from every corner of the city reflects the collective enthusiasm of the community as they prepare to witness the historic Puttige Paryaya.

The ceremonial event, a once-in-two-years occurrence, is a significant cultural and religious festival in Udupi. The Paryaya celebration involves the handing over of the divine responsibility of the Krishna Math to a new seer of the Ashta Maths and this time from the Puttige Math.

Devotees from far, near and wide have flocked to Udupi to be part of this spiritual spectacle. Senior seer of the Puttige Math Sri Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji will ascend the Sarvajnya Peetha for the fourth time on January 18. Puttige seer is known for his efforts in spreading Hinduism not only in India but in a larger part of the world. A large number of swamiji's devotees from worldwide will be flying down to Udupi for the Paryaya festivities.

The Sri Krishna Math, the epicentre of the Paryaya festivities, is bedecked with flowers, colourful rangoli and traditional motifs, creating an ethereal ambiance. Pilgrims and locals alike are eagerly awaiting the grand procession that will mark the symbolic transfer of power from the outgoing seer to the successor.

Security measures have been heightened, with police authorities working in tandem to ensure the safety and well-being of the devotees. Traffic diversions have been put in place to facilitate the smooth flow of the expected surge in crowds. Devotees have been urged to cooperate with the authorities to ensure a seamless celebration.

Cultural programmes and devotional music have been organised to entertain the gathering, adding an extra layer of jubilation to the event.

The Paryaya procession will begin from Kinnimulky at 2 am and it will proceed till Jodukatte. Thereafter at 2:15 am in Jodukatte prayers and other rituals will be held. Puttige seer will enter the car street at 4:30 am and will have darshan of Sri Krishna through the Kanakana Kindi, He will then visit Chandramouleshwara and Anantheshwara Temples on Car Street and will enter the Sri Krishna Math. At 5:50 am, Puttige Math swamiji will receive the Akshaya Patre and ascend the Sarvajna Peetha.

The traditional darbar will be held at 6:30 am in Rajangana. Many political and social leaders from all over the world are expected to be a part of Paryaya darbar.

The annasantarpane will be held from 12 noon at the anna chatra among other locations. Arrangements have been finalised and preparations are underway for providing a sumptuous lunch to the devotees.

As the clock ticks down, the excitement is palpable in Udupi with the city eagerly awaiting the commencement of the Puttige Vishwageetha Paryaya 2024. The spiritual fervour, cultural richness, and communal harmony on display showcase the deep-rooted traditions and unity that define the essence of this unique celebration in Udupi.
