Udupi, Jan 18: The much anticipated Puttige Paryaya 2024 saw a grand beginning with the ascent of the Sarvajna Peetha by Puttige seer Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji in the wee hours on Thursday January 18.
With this, the two-year Paryaya period of Krishnapura Math officially ended and Puttige Math will be in charge of festivities and offering puja to Lord Sri Krishna from Thursday.
Puttige seer Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji took a holy dip at Dandatheertha lake in Kaup at 1:30 am and arrived at Jodukatte to take part in the rituals and grand Paryaya procession. Pooja was offered to Veera Vithala, Pattadadevaru of Puttige Math at Jodukatte.
Sri Sugunendra Theertha was accompanied by his junior pontiff Sri Susheendra Theertha Swamiji.
Puttige seer Sri Sugunendra Theertha received the Darshan of Lord Krishna through Kanakana Kindi and also that of Lord Chandramoulishwara and Lord Anantheshwara.
Puttige seer Sri Sugunendra Theertha was given responsibility of the next two years of Paryaya by Admar Math seer Sri Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji by placing him on the Sarvajna Peetha.
A large number of unique tableaus took part in the Paryaya procession including Kambala buffalo tableau by team Bailakere, Ram Mandir by BJP Udupi, pili vesha teams, Nasik band, chende sets, and other tableaus.
The Puttige pontiffs were taken in a beautifully decorated palanquin placed on open vehicles.
District in-charge minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP and union minister Shobha Karandlanje, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, deputy commissioner Dr Vidyakumari, Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar, leaders Pramod Madhwaraj, Prasadraj Kanchan, Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Ramesh Kanchan and others were present.
Dr H S Ballal, president of the welcome committee; Raghupati Bhat, working president Paryaya welcome committee; Belapu Deviprasad Shetty, secretary and other committee members took part in the Paryaya procession.
