Beltangady: Leopard preys on stag at Neriya

Beltangady, Jan 18: A leopard preyed on a stag at Bayalumalla of Neriya in the taluk.

The carcass of the three-year-old stag was found near the government forest area on January 17. There was a deep wound on the neck of the stag. It is suspected that the stag was killed by leopard.

Leopard attacks are occurring frequently in Thotattadi and Chibidre villages. Cattle and domestic dogs are preyed on by the leopard.

DRFOs of forest department Yatindra, Bhavanai Shankara, Panduranga Kamati, Kittu and others visited the spot and did inspection. Veterinary doctor Yatish Kumar of Neriya conducted the post mortem examination with the help of Snake Anil of Kakkinje. Later, the carcass was consigned to flames.
