Mangaluru, Jan 19: Acting on a credible tip-off, ACP Dhanya Nayak and her team from the south sub-division conducted a raid on a residence located in Kotepura, Ullal. The operation resulted in the arrest of Abdul Altaf (49), a local resident engaged in the illegal gas filling trade. Authorities confiscated 56 empty gas cylinders, 230 litres of petrol, cylinders containing filled gas, and other equipment used for the illicit activity.
It is alleged that the accused, Altaf, maintained a stock of petrol with the intention of selling it to country boat fishermen operating at night along the Ullal seashore. Additionally, he reportedly supplied small gas cylinders to labourers from outstation states, including Uttar Pradesh, who were employed in saw mills and various industries. The accused is also said to have sold small cylinders to auto-rickshaw drivers.
The operation was spearheaded by ACP Dhanya Nayak, with the raiding team, including Ullal inspector Balakrishna H N, Reji V M, Shaju Nair, Mahesh, Akbar Yadrami, and Shivakumar.
A case related to this incident has been registered at the Ullal police station.
