Jayalalithaa Condemns Petrol Price Hike


Chennai, Sep 16 (IANS): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa Thursday strongly condemned the petrol price hike and charged the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of not taking firm action to reduce spiralling prices.

In a statement issued here, she said: "The central government has been increasing the prices of petroleum products regularly without bothering that it impacts the common people. At a time when prices are increasing, the central government, without taking firm measures to reduce them, has increased the petrol prices."

Strongly condemning the hike of Rs.2.61 per litre (at Chennai) from Thursday night onwards, Jayalalithaa urged the central government to withdraw the price increase.
