Gadkari clears Rs 344 cr project for expanding Mangaluru-Tumakuru highway

New Delhi, Jan 19 (IANS): Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced on Friday that an allocation of Rs 343.74 crore has been sanctioned for the expansion of the Mangaluru-Mudigere-Tumakuru section of NH-73 in Karnataka.

The project will transform this section of the National Highway into a two-lane road with paved shoulders.

Gadkari said the project, spanning 10.8 km, is slated for execution under the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode.

Negotiating challenging hilly and mountainous landscapes, particularly the Charmadi Ghat, this initiative is poised to substantially enhance connectivity in the region, the Minister added.

The four laning of NH169 between bikkarnakatte and karkala has not been completed even after so many years. No land has been acquired in kulshekar for the purpose. Work has been done only up to kudupu ,that too has not been completed. It is said that they will do widening work only on the govt land in kulshekar. Private land will not be acquired. Then how is it possible to make it 4 laning as said by the minister?

After building highways and expressways the number of fatal road crashes have increased exponentially, especially of smaller cars and two wheelers, often times wiping out entire families while traveling to pilgrimage spots, marriage functions etc etc..... just going on laying roads, without sufficient safety measures, just for creating world records, is counterproductive.....in third world places anything is possible especially when majority public has been brainwashed😔😞🙏

This is a welcome step. However just enhancing 2 way road and not developing it to 4 way doesn't help. We need 4 ways highways. Also we need expressways specially from Mangaluru to Bengaluru and Mangaluru to Mumbai..
