Azharuddin's Son Continues to be Critical, Tests Indicate Brain Dysfunction

Hyderabad, Sep 16: Even five days after he met with a grievous accident, there has been no improvement in the condition of Ayazuddin, son of former cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin.

The 19-year-old is still very critical and medical reports show that the accident has left its impact on his brain.

The accident took place on Sunday September 11 when Ayazuddin lost control over his sports bike at the Outer Ring Road and crashed. His 16-year-old cousin Ajmal-ur-Rahman died in the accident.

On Thursday September 15, Dr K Hari Prasad, CEO of Apollo Hospitals said that electroencephalogram (EEG) examinations revealed that his brain may have been affected.

"Brain function tests conducted on Ayazuddin indicate brain dysfunction, and his status remain critical," he said.

In fact, a segment of his brain is said to have stopped functioning due to the cardiac arrest he suffered on Sunday, as there was no blood supply to the brain for long.

On Monday September 12, Ayazuddin was operated on his kidneys and the left one was removed, and ever since then EEG examinations have been conducted regularly. However, it was only on Thursday that the doctors could go for a full-fledged EEG.

The chances of recovery are grim, and the entire family is in a state of shock, sources said. Even if he does survive, the recovery may not be cent percent.

Azharuddin, who has been requesting everyone to pray for his son, will be offering special prayers on Friday.
