Price Hike Burden on Common Man: Dinesh Trivedi

New Delhi, Sep 16 (IANS): United Progressive Alliance (UPA) ally Trinamool Congress (TMC) Friday said the hike in petrol prices would lead to further inflation and be a burden on the common man.

"This will lead to further inflation and will be a burden on the common man," senior TMC leader and Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi told reporters here.

"The government should find a way to compensate the oil companies while keeping in mind the burden on the common man due to high prices of essential commodities," he added.

Petrol prices were hiked Thursday, for the 10th time since June 2010, by Rs.3.14 a litre from Friday, as India's oil retailers sought to pass most of the burden of the falling value of the rupee and high crude prices on to consumers.

The latest hike comes over and above a steep upward revision of Rs.5 a litre in May.
