Bengaluru, Jan 21: Deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar on Sunday strongly defended the State Government’s stand of not declaring a holiday on the occasion of consecration of Lord Rama’s idol at Ayodhya.

Speaking to media persons near his residence, he said, “We have been practising our traditions and rituals for a long time. We don’t need to learn from others about religion and devotion.”

Replying to BJP leaders’ call to declare a holiday on Monday for the consecration of Lord Rama at Ayodhya, he said BJP has turned the religious ceremony into a party event and for projection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“We don’t use religion for publicity. We believe that prayers yield results and hence we have ordered special pooja at all the temples under the Muzrai department even before anyone asked for it. We don’t need lectures from others on this. We know what to do,’’ he said.

The deputy chief minister, who is also heading the State Congress, said; “There is Rama in Siddaramaiah’s name and Shiva in my name. We know our rituals and traditions. There should be dharma in politics but not politics in dharma.”

He is incorrect when he claims he does not want to combine politics and religion, but he is correct when he says he does not want to declare a holiday in honor of the Ayodhya event. He's aiming a finger at his own reflection. He is the political maestro of minority appeasement. What a phony. It's the equivalent of acting the same way and calling someone a thief. What distinguishes these politicians from one another? Regardless of the party they are affiliated with, they are all, in my opinion, criminals.

Courageous and right action by DKS and Siddaramaiah......God is everywhere and all temples will do pooja. People will pray at home, as always. Why should there be a public holiday for a BJP event, that too in an unfinished temple.

The word ‘Ram’ came into existence only after 1575 after the epic story writer great and wise sage Valmiki depicting king Ram as the hero of his story. There is no mention of any of Ramayana characters in historical architecture and literature before 1575. Only Shiv, Brahma etc etc…..and thier idols.

So the architectural ruins unearthed beneath the Babri masjid must be of some other structure, not Ram temple.

@ Mr. Harish, clarification is simple. If Ram came into existence in 1575 (according to Gautam Das), it means there was no Ram temple in 1528, the year in which Babri masjid was constructed. So the ruins found by ASI underneath Babri masjid must be of some other temple or some other structure.
