Bangalore: Lokayukta Justice Patil in Illegal Land Acquisition Row

Bangalore: Lokayukta Justice Patil in Illegal Land Acquisition Row

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Sep 16: In what may turn out to be a major embarassment to the recently-appointed Lokayukta Justice Shivraj Patil, it has now come to light that three plots in Bangalore are owned by him and his wife, in violation of rules.

The rule states that a person can own only one land alloted by a goverment agency or private housing cooperative society in the Bangalore metropolitan limits. Neither he/she nor the family members are allowed to own another plot.

However, Patil and his wife Annapurna have not one but three government plots in Bangalore, which is against Section 10 (a) of the house building cooperative societies by-laws, implemented by the state government in 1993, which bars any member or his family who has been allotted a site by a society from getting another in the name of other family members.

The lands were acquired in 1982 (2,400 sq ft in Vasant Nagar where a house was built), 1994 (9,600 sq ft at Allalasandra) and 2006 (4,012 sq ft near Nagawara), sources said.

Ironically, one of the plots owned by Annapurna was allotted by the Vyalikaval House Building Cooperative Society, which is being probed by the Lokayukta for merging a public road with the premises of Yeddyurappa's family firm.

Justice Patil is currently probing the charges of corruption and illegal land deals against former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, and thus the new revelation, if found true, may prove to be a big headache for the Lokayukta.

However, speaking to the news channel, Justice Patil denied the allegations and said that he did not violate any law. He also added that his wife returned her property in Bangalore on Wednesday September 14 so as not to give scope for any misunderstandings.

He also said that his family had bought the land from VBHCS through an auction to raise money for the society and that in such cases, the house building cooperative rules do not apply.

Dev, Mangalore it's a waste consulting opposition leaders regarding appointment of lokayukta as the opposition parties are fit to do only road shows and all other types of road circus.

    ISMAIL.K.PERINJE, PERINJE-YANBU/KSA,

As usual you are speaking "half truth" here and jumping to conclusions.....

While agreeing with you that CMs recommendations means much in appointment for Lokayukta....Who told you Justice Santosh Hegde is from RSS background....If you think everybody in BJP are from RSS background it only shows your lack of knowledge.

Its true that Justice Santhosh Hegde's father late Justice KS Hegde was national Vice President of BJP ,,, he or his any children were in RSS at any time,,, infact none of his clildren Santosh,Vinay or Prasaana belong to any polital parties....

Grow up my friend before you accuse others for acting "Very Smart".....

Dr S.Kamath Mumbai, before laughing @ any body's comments on specified subject please make sure that your comments are also accurate and appropriate.

    Here are the corrections

A Lokayukta should held SC judge post or HC CJ.

Shall be appointed advise tendered by CHIEF MINISTER OF THE STATE in consultation with CJ of HC,Speaker,Leaders of both Houses.

The Lokayaukta And Uplokayukta shall before entering up on their office, make and subscribe before the GUV or some person appointed by him, take oath and affirmation in the form set out for the purpose in the first schedule...

DOC, S.Kamath, even though CM of the state consults or forwards the name(s) for Lokayukta, that should be final as a First citizen and popularly elected head of Karanataka. For your information this is just formality only.Infact CM decides the appointment of Lokayukta.Instances....1)Justice Santhosh Hegde, being came from RSS backround appointed on the advise of BJP by then CM of Kumaranna...
Instance 2) In Guj, Governor trespassed Cm's legitimate power/right of appointment of Lokayukta and with out consulting CM appointed Lokayukta first time in GUJ ....made headlines in the national politics which pave the way for interference of Union cabinet recently.. so what is your comments now...

    @Dr S Kamath-
Probably you donot know the proceedure of appointment of Lokaukta yourself.
    Who recommends to the governor?
The CM, & who was CM, who hastily recommended Justice Patil?
The answer to above all questions is Yeddy.
The opposition Leader & Chief Justice only has to agree to CM's recommendation as they don't have any files regarding the appointee, to verify his past.
May be Patil was in GOOD BOOKS of Yeddy & he wanted him there to cover up his past as well.

Two powerful caste lead Karnataka in the elections. This man belongs to one of those castes. The other is you all may know. The wealth of Karnataka is looted by these people. They have infuence in any Govt.which is in power. They 30-40 MLA in each of thier castes & few ministers at any point of time. Thus amassing wealth makes easier, getting GOVT. job is easier for them. They are very powerful in many districts. We mangaloreans are simply spoiling our moods discussing that.No use discussing , things may not change for centuries.

The article does not mention his other property, which is a palatial mansion (9600 sq ft) in the very posh palace orchards area of Bangalore... the plot house would be worth not less than 10 crores !.. where did all that wealth come from? He is not as clean as the public was led to believe! He has the blessings of Yeddyurappa... that by itself ought to say something about him !

What a pity! Lokpal/Janlokpal requires a recruitment of about 35,000 dedicated people with unquestionable integrity and honesty. And Lokayukta coming into force in every state the requirement will be at least another 3,00,000 such people! How many people are there in our country who have not offered or accepted bribe in their life time except perhaps those who can't even afford one full meal a day?
