Bantwal: Police crack mother-daughter robbery case, arrest 7 gang members

Bantwal, Jan 22: Bantwal police successfully solved a robbery case in which a group of seven robbers stormed a residence in Menadu near Wagra, threatened a family, looted gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 3,15,000, and escaped. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Bantwal Rural Police Station in the DK district.

The arrested robbers are identified as Ganesh Naik (26), son of Suresh Naik of Mala village, Karkala taluk; Dinesh Naik (22), Sagar Shetty (21), son of Jayaraj Shetty of Aikala village, Mangaluru taluk; Rakesh L Pinto (29), son of Vincy Lancy Pinto, Belandu village, Kadaba taluk; Vasu Salian's son Praveen (36), and Anni Poojary's son Sudhir (29).

On January 11, 2024, at 6:15 am, the robbers entered the residence of Merita Cynthia Pinto in Bantwal, threatened the occupants, looted gold ornaments worth Rs. 3,15,000, and fled. The Bantwala Rural Police Station registered a case (A.Cr: 03/2024 Column: 395, 397, 411 Bha.Dam.No.).

The Dakshina Kannada District Police faced the challenge of solving this robbery case with no initial leads. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Rishyant, IPS, Superintendent of Police, DK District, Dharmappa, and Rajendra, along with Additional Superintendent of Police, S VijayaPrasad, DySP, formed three special investigation teams under the leadership of Shivakumar B, Nandakumar, PSI Punjalakatte, and PSI Harish from Bantwala Rural Police Station.

The teams were assisted by skilled Crime Squad personnel, and with continuous and painstaking efforts, they successfully cracked the robbery case. The robbers were arrested, and the police recovered the stolen gold jewelry worth Rs. 3,15,000, along with an Innova car valued at Rs. 8 lacs and a Tata car used in the robbery (Indica cars worth Rs. 2 lacs).

Vasi Muhammad Haneef (49) from Ira village, Bantwal taluk, presently residing at Gowri Canal, Chikkamagaluru district, was identified as the person who received the stolen gold jewelry. Among the accused, Ganesh Naika was revealed to be the main offender who committed a major theft in Mangaluru city in 2023.

The Dakshina Kannada district police superiors have praised the staff for their diligent work in solving the case and announced a reward for their efforts, earning widespread acclaim from the public.
