Kundapura, Jan 24: The Kundapura police have arrested a bike theft accused and recovered the stolen bike from him.
The arrested accused was Ranjith Poojary (25), a resident of Kambadkone, Kalod grama, Byndoor. He was arrested on charges of stealing a Splendor bike parked by Ananth Hebbar, near the Government Employees' Association building on Bhandarkar College Road on November 26.
Ananth Hebbar had parked his bike bearing the registration number M12 E9604 before going to work. He found that his bike valued at Rs 25,000 was missing when he returned from work in the evening. He did not find his bike even after searching in all the nearby places.
A case was registered under crime no. 124/2023 under section 379 on the basis of a complaint filed by Ananth Hebbar.
The police later arrested Ranjith Poojary from Byndoor junction and took into custody the Hero Honda Splendor bike stolen by him. It is said that more than five bike theft cases were registered against the accused in various other police stations. He was produced in the court on January 23 and remanded to judicial custody.
The operation to nab the accused was conducted by PSIs Vinay Korlahalli and Prasad Kumar K, station staffers Santhosh Kumar, Sridhar, Rama Poojary and Byndoor station crime division personnel under the guidance of Kundapura police station inspector U B Nandakumar.
