Mangalore, Sep 19: Fr Muller Medical College and Deccan Herald jointly organized a lecture on ‘Medical Education at the Crossroads’ at the FMMC Decennial Memorial Hall on Monday September 19.

Padma Bhushan Dr B M Hegde, former vice chancellor, Manipal University, delivering his lecture on the topic said that the human body is a bundle of energies.

“Bad thoughts, ego, and negative or destructive thoughts will help the human cells grow into cancer cells,” he stated. Dr Hegde also said that different diseases wherein each part of the human body is affected by varied diseases is wrong as the human body is one and made up of 52 trillion living cells and only needs human touch for treatment of any disease.

“All diseases come from a bad mind,” he added and said that American medicine is the worst among the other 14 industrialized nations’ medicines. “Medical profession is an art, and human diseases can be cured by the doctors with their human touch,” he said.

Doctors,Medicines are not actually curing any disease. But masking the symptoms of inner balance. As per Ayurveda, like 7 colours in the rainbow, there are 7 Main chakra's in our body.If there is blockage in any Chakra it gives rise to imbalance in corresponding part of the body. One way to correct the imbalance is through plants, which are store house's of "Nature's" energy,be it root, stem, leaves, cortex, flowers, fruits or seeds, which help us in regaining the"Rhythm" if lost and help us to maintain good health. As per Modern Medicine one needs to get rid of Tonsils,Gallbladder or Appendix if inflamed. This is a greatest misgiving.Once you get rid of these things, your problems will not be solved, instead you land up with new problems. This is my personnel experience. Now some Western Research Institutes are in agreement with this.As commented earlier,by many people,"Nature" is the best doctor.

I am happy to note from Hasanmuka regarding another doctor - Dr. Ganesan who also believed in NATURE CURE. Indeed Dr. Ganesan of wonderful memory too was a PEOPLES' MAN. He was kind and understanding. I recall his statement once at the same venue viz Father Muller's when he narrated an episode when a patient questioned the doctor regarding the fees a doctor should charge a patient. ONCE A MECHANIC CHARGED RS.100/- FOR THE REPAIRS OF A CAR. THE OWNER QUESTIONED HIM AND ASKED HIM WHY HE CHARGED THIS AMOUNT JUST FOR TIGHTENING A SCREW. THE REJOINDER WAS VERY SIMPLE. THE MECHANIC TOLD THE OWNER OF THE CAR THAT IT WAS ONLY RS.10/- FOR TIGHTENING THE SCREW BUT RS.90/- WAS THE FEE TO TRY AND LOCATE WHICH SCREW THAT TO BE TIGHTENED.

Dr. Ganesan migrated to Chennai where he died later. Memory of this good man will linger in the minds of all those who loved and respected him.

I fully appreciate the 'Human Touch' approach emphasized by Dr. B.M. Hegde. I feel that nature cure is far better than drugs, particularly allopathic medicines, which are promoted by the drug companies, who make exorbitant profits at the cost of hapless sick people to whom some gullible doctors prescribe some avoidable medicines. Whenever, I go to my specialist doctor, I find the Medical Reps far outnumber the patients who want to see the Doctor. Once, when I booked my appointment with my G.P.specialist, my appointment sr.number was 14. However,I learnt that I was the only patient, while the rest 13 were Medical Representatives. Later on a few more patients came to see the G.P.
Luckily, my doctor is not carried away by these MRs. My doctor prescribed only the required medicines to take care of my illness and suggested to me some natural remedies. As a result, I have developed full trust with my Specialist General Practitioner.
I hope the budding Doctors adhere to this spirit of 'Human Touch' as suggested by Dr. Hegde, so that the sick people may get a quick remedy and will be able to remain healthy as far as possible without resorting to un-necessary medication.

Bad thoughts, ego, and negative or destructive thoughts will help the human cells grow into cancer cells.

Can we believe it? If doctors say so we have to believe it.

Till now we heard, weather, solar rays, bad atmosphere, electromagnetic rays, were cause for this.

What about other diseases other than cancer? say cold, fever?

Good input for some sci-fi movie.

Sometimes doctors no better than politicians.

Mr.joegonsalves, we fully agree with your comments.Like Prof.Hegde, there was another former KMC, Mangalore, Principal, Late Prof.K.P.Ganeshan,who does not prescribe lot of drugs/medicines to his patients. Now a days the doctors prescribe a lot of medicines to their patients but they don't have the time even to educate their patients the way to take the medicine they prescribe! We assume that ,lot of diseases come from the drug interactions because patients take the drugs simultaneously.May be they form another drug in their stomach soon after they take and it may not cure the patient for which they take the medicine.

It was a good thought on the part of the management of Father Muller's Hospital - Medical College to invite Professor B.M. Hegde to address the teaching staff and the students of The Institution to give a talk on MEDICAL EDUCATION AT CROSSROADS.

I have known Professor Hegde for several years as a forthright, honest man who does not mince words. Even though a very highly qualified person - an examiner of M.R.C.P. students in England and former Vice Chancellor of Mahe University he firmly believes in giving the nature a chance to heal. His talk last evening at Father Muller's Medical College was revealing. Many people may not agree with his concepts and more so the Drug Companies for his revealing views and his thoughts and keeping the drugs at bay.

In today's day to day life it is common for people to rush to The Doctor/physician for treatment of common ailments like colds. Ask Professor Hegde for an answer and he will not hesitate in prescribing grand-ma's remedies like ginger-black pepper-garlic-onion kasiam.

Students who may read this comment, please do carefully think of his ideas but certainly let his thoughts not find a place in your answer papers. However after you pass your exams by all means follow his advice to the word and you will be great HEALERS.

KUDOS TO PADMABUSHAN HEDGE for his thought-provoking talk delivered without reservation.

Thanks to FMCI - Father Denis D'Sa and Deccan Herald for organizing this meeting
