Mangaluru, Feb 5: The state government has issued an order to elevate Newpadpu government school to a government PU college, following the appeal of Padma Shri Harekala Hajabba, widely recognized as ‘Aksharasanta’. This upgraded facility will be accessible to local students starting from the upcoming academic year.
Hajabba received the official order letter from Padmini S Rao, the under-secretary of the school education and literacy department, acting upon the directives of the governor of Karnataka.
Hajabba, formerly an orange vendor, dedicated considerable effort to enhance the conditions of the government school in the rural area of Harekala. His remarkable contributions earned him several accolades, including the prestigious Padma Shri from the union government.
Having successfully advocated for the establishment of a high school in Newpadpu, Hajabba petitioned Siddaramaiah in 2013 to initiate a PU college on the same campus. Now, his dream has materialized through the order issued by the governor.
