Mangaluru: Six-yr-old girl crushed to death under Eicher lorry

Mangaluru, Feb 7: In a heart wrenching incident, a six-year-old child, studying at NITK was crushed to death on the service road near Mukka Indian Petrol pump here.

The incident occured when the child and her father were returning home from school on a scooty. The lorry that approached from behind hit the two-wheeler and ran over the child.

The deceased girl is Manvi, daughter of Sridhar, a resident of Mitrapatna in Mukka. The body of the child and injured Sridhar were shifted to A J Hospital.

The enraged members of the public at the spot wanted to thrash the lorry driver.

The Surathkal station police who rushed to the spot, took into custody the lorry and its driver.

    As per International country driving rules, lanes are specified for 80KM, 100KM, 120KM speed limits and the heavy vehicles must use the slow lane , if not, drivers are fined based on CCTV camera recordings. But in India Heavy Vehicles are using fast lane with slow speed and disturbing the traffic flow for smaller vehicles which causes traffic Jam. In India, Heavy vehicles, such as Tankers, Trailers, Buses, Trucks are using fast lane and drive slow on a fast lane and block the road for light vehicles. Light vehicles has to overtake the heavy vehicles all the time. Can't the central Traffic department make rules One India One Traffic Rule for who to drive on slow lane and who to drive on the fast lane, and give compulsory instructions to Drivers during driving test upon issuing driving license so that traffic discipline can be maintained . Also vehicles must follow lane disciplines, and avoid overtaking from left instead of from right,

    Very sad incident. The driver was drunk. Government should ban alcohol across the country, except for tourists, so as to avoid such terrible accidents. People are very complacent and wait for Government to act instead of protesting against drinking, liquor being made available easily. It is the duty of every citizen to ensure that the country is healthy and safe. Government is only an elected body of the people.

    when lorry transport union was blackmailing the govt with strike & chakka jaam against new vehicle Act common man whose children die every day like cats and dogs under these wheels failed to come onto road & support govt

    These types of trucks drivers are always in a hurry to make more trips to earn more. Administration must send the driver to jail till life time and the truck owner must component the loss. They think that life is a joke. Traffic Police also must control the speed of buses and trucks. By regularly checking.

    really pathetic...the public should have thrashed the driver if it was his fault...too much softness is not good...one or two bashings then the drivers will know the mangalore public se panga nahin....these very drivers will be careful when driving in ghatta areas

    real kujuma kodial when you thrash driver will the child come back?Sure we thrash immediately.Leaving it to Police to is always best without knowing really lorry driver is having any fault or sccoter changed its position ?we dont know.Its really tragody.sad..Heartfelt sympathy to the family.May the childs soul rest in Peace.Pray father will get well soon as possible.Here the family must get good compansation from from insurance.drivers licence should be cancelled .Put him inside for long time.

    No way speed governor will be implemented in india for heavy commercial vehicles for next 100 years, worst traffic management system in whole world. majority of truck drivers are drink & drive. They installed GPS on all trucks but why no speed governor?

    These drivers do not take professional training and while being cleaners with the help of the driver they learn to drive. Our indian judicial system is such pathetic that anyone can get a driving license, even without taking any training. Due to this act an innocent life of the child is gone and these drivers such be applied with blood money, just like the way it happens in the gulf countries
