Bantwal/Puttur, Feb 8: Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada, Mullai Muhilan, and a team of officials visited the four-lane roadwork from BC Road to Addahole on Wednesday February 7.
The inspection commenced at the Brahmarshee Narayana Guru Circle in B C Road and extended all the way to Addahole. DC Muhilan listened to the grievances and complaints of locals. Some farmer leaders and locals highlighted the issues they are facing due to NHAI work. Muhilan assured them that these issues would be resolved as soon as possible.
The DC asked NHAI officials to address the concerns of the public living near a hill at Melkar, which has been excavated for roadwork. Locals from Kalladka brought to the DC's attention the health problems they are experiencing due to the dust generated from the roadwork. The DC instructed Tahsildar D Archana Bhat to ensure that the local gram panchayat sprinkles water daily to prevent dust from rising. Issues such as the cutting of drinking water pipelines were also brought to the DC's attention. Farmer leaders elaborated on the chaos surrounding certain land acquisitions and compensation issues.
Addressing the issue of water stagnation in the wastewater drain at Uppinangady, the DC stated that the local gram panchayat should find a solution for such problems through grants. He also issued a strict warning to the contractor to complete the construction work of the retaining wall near the drain before the onset of the monsoon.
