A 500-km March in Support of Jan Lokpal Bill

Lucknow, Sep 21 (IANS): Right to Information (RTI) activists plan to march 500 km through Uttar Pradesh from Sep 24 to make rural masses aware of the Jan Lokpal bill

"The padyatra will pass through hundreds of villages," organiser Alok Kumar Singh said here Wednesday.

"The objective is to make the rural masses aware of the Jan Lokpal Bill and how they will benefit if the stronger version of the anti-corruption legislation become law," he said.

According to him, people from all walks of life must keep mounting pressure so that the lokpal bill is passed in the upcoming winter session of Parliament.

"The padyatra will begin in Lucknow," Singh said.

According to RTI activists, they will hold street plays during the Sarvodaya Yatra. "The plays will immensely help us to persuade villagers, particularly those who are illiterate," Singh said.
