Iran to Free Two US Hikers

Tehran, Sep 21 (IANS): Two US hikers jailed in Iran for allegedly carrying out espionage activities in the country will be freed on bail, Xinhua reported Wednesday.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had said in an interview last week with the NBC News that Joshua Fattal and Shane Bauer would be released in a couple of days.

Both Fattal and Bauer will have to pay bail of $500,000 each, the state media reported. Their bail was granted till a final verdict is issued by the judiciary.

One more US national, Sarah Shourd, who was held along with them in July 2009 was released in September last year on health grounds.

The three were arrested for illegally entering the country and then charged with carrying out espionage activities.

Fattal and Bauer were sentenced to eight years in prison last month after spending over two years in jail.
