Udupi, Feb 11: A gang of youths launched a violent assault on the vehicle of an on-duty police sub-inspector from the Malpe police station and a home guard in an incident reported from Hoode, under the jurisdiction of the Malpe police station.
According to the complaint filed at the Malpe Police station, Sub Inspector Sushma, along with Home Guard Javed, had undertaken routine patrols in Thottam, Gujjarabettu, Kadike, Badanidiyur areas within the police station limits. Upon reaching Hoode at approximately 02:15 in the night, they encountered 4-5 individuals loudly yelling near a school in Hoode. Upon spotting the police jeep, 2-3 individuals fled the scene, while the remaining 2 confronted the officers near the schoolyard. The duo proceeded to approach the departmental jeep, threatening the officers' lives and blocking the vehicle. One assailant, identified as Saqlain, armed himself with a large rock and a rod, declaring his intent to kill the sub-inspector, and proceeded to strike the jeep's glass. Simultaneously, another person hurled stones, prompting the officers to escape to the Shalegudde area of Hoode.
The on-duty police officers, in uniform, faced obstruction in carrying out their duties, and the departmental jeep sustained damage during the incident.
A case has been registered at the Malpe police station in connection with this attack.
