Bengaluru, Feb 12: The joint session of the State Legislature under new BJP opposition leader R Ashok caused some interesting scenes with all opposition BJP members arriving in the Assembly wearing saffron shawls and chanted the slogans, ‘Jai Sri Ram’ before and after the State Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s address on Monday.
BJP MLA from Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency in the city was seen distributing saffron shawls to the members as they assembled for the deliberations.
To counter the opposition BJP members, the ruling Congress members shouted ‘Bhatatmata Ki Jai’ and some members even chanted ‘Jai Bhim’.
It is not clear as to whether it was a pre-planned decision or action planned by some members as all the BJP members did not arrive wearing saffron shawls
The budget session of the State legislature commenced on Monday with the address by the Governor. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would be tabling the budget on February 16 for the year 2024-25.
