Mangaluru: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel instructs officials to speed up road works before elections

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (VP)

Mangaluru, Feb 14: Union Minister and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has directed officials to expedite the maintenance work on the KPT-Nanthoor road and Mukka-Surathkal road in preparation for upcoming elections. This directive came during the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting held at the Zilla Panchayat hall in Mangaluru on Wednesday, February 14.

Addressing the officials, Kateel specifically inquired about the progress of the BC road service road completion and the Mani to Uppinangadi road. In response, officials provided updates on the ongoing projects, including the BC road work, stating that 76% of the 40 km project has been completed, and the road is expected to be fully operational by April.

Kateel, along with DC Mullai Muhilan, expressed concern over land acquisition problems and emphasized the need to resolve these issues promptly to ensure timely project completion before the upcoming elections.

Officials provided details on the completion status of various projects, such as the Kulur bridge, Nanthoor to BC road, and Mukka to BC road, highlighting the progress and challenges faced in each case.

Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur expressed dissatisfaction with the delays in the Nantoor-KPT road project, suggesting the acquisition of additional land and the construction of a service road to alleviate traffic issues. The official response explained that additional land is required for the KPT overpass, and efforts are being made to clear land-related hurdles.

The deputy commissioner, Mullai Muhilan, raised concerns about the lack of prior discussions on these issues during meetings, emphasizing the importance of timely dialogue to address challenges effectively.

Updates were also provided on maintenance work in areas like Mukka to BC road and Charmadi road development, with officials assuring that these projects are progressing according to schedule.

When the MP and other officials touched upon water line issues, mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur said, "You cannot just make your own pipeline and use borewells and take water. It is illegal and we are strictly against illegal water sourcing. Water scarcity has been too much since November. I have been listening to this. From Maravoor dam the water is used in 10 areas. So check for the availability of the water in that area and use the excess water on a temporary basis for 2-3 months."

The meeting, attended by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr Arun K, District Commissioner Mullai Muhilan, Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur, and officials from various departments, focused on addressing concerns and streamlining efforts for efficient project completion.

I have travelled to Bengaluru from BC Road multiple times in last few months and don't see much progress in terms of completion. I am doubtful if they would open this stretch in April. Lets see in April. Meanwhile both Nanthoor and KPT they haven't started any work yet also. Kulur bridge work is moving at slow pace. As a Mangalorean its feels sad that development activities are done at slow pace. Hoping for the best and lets see how its goes.
