Mangalore, Sep 23: “In order to protect and sustain human rights in the nation ‘prevention of communal and targeted violence bill’ is inevitable. Democracy persists only when human dignity is achieved by harmonious relation among people of different caste, creed, religion and by upholding secularism”, said central minister for corporate affairs, Dr Veerappa Moily.

He was delivering the inaugural address at a two day national seminar on ‘Human Rights – Changing Trends and Challenges in India’ organized by the department of Political Science and Human Rights Education Cell of St Agnes College on Friday September 23.

As the nation’s Government (UPA) had the responsibility of assuring dignified life for all people and to avoid ‘separation feeling’ among minority communities, there was an extreme need for the prevention of violence bill, he asserted. To imbibe the feeling of ‘solidarity’ and to create a feeling of equality awareness in schools and colleges will contribute a lot, he opined.

A country can be called well governed when human rights and law is perfectly placed, he noted. According to a US report 1/5 of population of the world are starving without food (mal-nutrition) which is a shame to human community, he added.

Dr Shashikala Gurupur, dean faculty of law Symbiosis International University delivered the key note address.

Nadoja Dr Justice S R Nayak, chairperson, Karnataka state human rights commission, the chief guest of the programme said that caste emotions in the nation has contributed lot for the pathetic situation like enmity, hatred and thereby violation of human rights.

Though billion dolor Government funds is released for various developmental works by the governance bodies, in many such cases women in villages still sleep without food at night also making her sons or daughters to sleep starved all thanks to greed of human being. This was not the idea behind having constitutional rights and democratic nation, he regretted.

Dr Sr M Prem D’Souza, principal of the college presided over the programme. Chandramohan Marate of Human Right Cell of college was present on the occasion.

Radical, anti social and communal elements like Advani, Modi, Varun Gandhi, Thogadia, Yeddyurappa, Dhananjaya Kumar and Kageri have necessitated the prevention of communal violence bill. Advani gets the credit of sowing the seeds of communal unrest for the first time in the history of modern India.

It is high time they know that India does not belong to hindus alone but also equally belongs to muslims and christians. Modi massacred hundreds of muslims in Gujarat. Churches were attacked under the patronage of Yeddy. We all need to realise that everyone deserves to live in peace, security and dignity. When these so called leaders act in a uncivilized manner there comes the need for prevention of communal violence bill.

.Dear Nagesh, you always insist that, whatever UPA doing is to convince the Christians and Muslims of India. Then why not 85% population beat the UPA in the elections. That means whatever the UPA is doing is for the betterment of both majority and minority community. If not then please prove it instead of using your meaningless allegations.

Yes Mr. Vinay Shetty.. I agree with you. This Govt. dont want to unite Indian People. They are following the US system devide & rule. The Indian Congress is the Puppet in the hands of foreign hands. They want to convert India into a Christian Country. it is not surprising news. Gandhi family promised to do so when we got Independence.

I appreciate the initiative taken by the st. Agnes College to have the national level seminar on human Rights. The Talks on various topics were enriching. It's high time for all of to create within us an awareness of irreligious peace and harmony. it is not the concern of the Govt only though it led by an Italin or American,It is only an escape by blaming others.

It may be inevitable for Congress to bring this bill saying that it will uphold human dignity but in reality is not inevitable an it will only uphold human indignity to the majority community.Congress never cared about the Majority. It cared only about the Minority because of its' eyes on minority vote bank.

So there is no wonder that Moili spoke like this platform of an autonomous christian minority institution. The only healthy matter in this thing is that there is stiff resistance for this bill throughout the country and the bill is going to be thrown to the dust bin where it deserves accomodation.

I am very pleased to note that St. Agnes College has taken a very strong initiative to Conduct a Two Day National Seminar on "Human Rights - Changing Trends and Challenges in India". It is highly appreciable that Dr. Veerappa Moily - the Hon'ble Union Minister for Corporate Affairs and Hon'ble Mr. Justice S R Nayak - the Chairman of Karnataka State Human Rights Commission were one of the main dignatories to take part in the said event. Sidelines along, it is very commendable and apt to note that a bold step has been taken by a non-law college in coming out with a concept which is general and common to the society. On this occassion,I congratulate the Principal, Management, Staff and Students of St. Agnes College, Mangalore for deliberating on one of the most burning concept that is neglected in our Indian scenario. Long Live St. Agnes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
