Udupi, Feb 20: Three women wearing burqa cheated a jewellery merchant by exchanging fake gold ornaments with real ones. A complaint in this regard has been filed with Udupi town police station.
Three women aged between 35 years to 45 years walked into Maruti Jewellers situated on Kanakadasa Road on Sunday, February 18 at around 7.30 pm. They bought a gold bracelet weighing 15.800 grams for which they had brought a necklace weighing 31.49 grams and a earring weighing 10.94 grams to exchange.

The bracelet that they bought costed Rs 48,771 while the jeweller returned the additional amount of Rs 19,000 in lieu of the exchanged ornaments. But, during the process of exchange, the three women changed the original ornaments and replaced them with similar looking fake ornaments and cheated the jeweller.
They cheated and took away genuine gold ornaments worth Rs 1,98,923 before they vacated the shop.
