Jaipur, Sep 24: On the basis of a complaint filed by a person in the civil court at Bhilada town in Jodhpur, a court has ordered the policemen to list Mahipal Madema,  state minister for water resources, as an accused in the case relating to the missing case of a woman. The additional chief judicial magistrate’s court passed this order on Friday September 23.

Bhanwari Devi, a midwife and nurse by profession, was reportedly featured in compromising positions with the above minister in a CD that was circulated recently. Husband of the midwife, Amarchand, in a complaint filed on Tuesday last, had charged the minister of raping and murdering his wife. His son, Sahil, also supported Amarchand’s claim that the minister had a hand in the abduction of his mother. Sahil, who took part in a demonstration in front of the office of the district collector, Jodhpur on Thursday, claimed that the lives of himself and his father are in grave danger.

Relating to the case, a contractor from Bilada, Jodhpur, was arrested by the police. Even though they had taken three other young men from Sikar district into custody, they were released, after claiming that there is no proof of their involvement in the case.

In its order, the court instructed the police to include the minister as an accused in the first information report already filed with it, and to investigate the role of the minister in the above crime under section 376, 320, and 120B of Indian Penal Code. These sections relate to rape, murder, and criminal conspiracy, respectively. This was stated by Paras Chauhan, lawyer hired by Amarchand.

Chauhan alleged that the policemen had made amendments to the police complaint filed by Amarchand about the fact that his wife had gone missing. He accused the policemen of leaving out the name of the minister in the complaint, and registering just a complaint of missing person, leaving out rape and murder charges.

On Thursday, the state High Court had taken the investigating officer to task for lethargic progress in the case. It also had instructed the Jodhpur inspector general of police to appear before the High Court on Monday September 26, to clarify the painstakingly slow progress of the investigation.

Amarchand had earlier announced his plans to self-immolate. He clarified that he had no other choice but too approach the court for justice, as the policemen had miserably failed in making any headway in the case relating to his missing wife, even after about four weeks since she went missing.

The policemen claim that they have come across the name of a mechanic from Pipad, who they feel, may have been involved with the incident. He is yet to be traced, they said.
