Mangalore, Sep 24: “In the name of private partnership for development of roads in city, district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar has sought the help of local builders which has led to suspicions”, pointed out former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty.

At a press meet held on Saturday September 24, he alleged that with this plan minister is trying to regularize few illegal constructions and said that the situation wherein the citizens are made to depend on builders for ‘repair work of their roads’ even after collecting road tax tells a sorry state of affairs in the administration.

As per this initiative, crushed stones, cement and labor charges are paid by MCC while laborers will be provided by builders and also they inspect the quality of the work carried out. Former MLA questioned whether Palemar thinks the citizens of Mangalore are fools to agree on this?  This raises a question whether Corporation is running short of expert engineers or is this the step to insult them?, he queried.

Vijay Kumar Shetty also rued that Palemar seems to be under the impression that he is the district in-charge minister only for city limit as he does not take any constructive decision about situation in the Gram Panchayath limits.

In the sanctioned money of Rs 100 crore, concretization was done only on such roads those led to flats and apartments of his builder friends. Even before he had made some alterations to the CDP rule and made sure not to construct houses in 3 cent lands, thereby putting an end to the dreams of poor and middle class people of having their own houses in city, Shetty noted.

Opposition leader in MCC Lancelot Pinto challenged that if Palemar wants to do good for the citizens of here, let him make builders to adopt few slum areas where poor people are struggling to reside. Handing over of ‘road work’ to builders is a shame to us and raises a question where does the tax money go, he questioned.

Former Mayor Shashidhar Hegde, corporator Naveen D’Souza and Sudhir T K among others were present at the press meet.

In addition to the current issue there have been numerous grievances the way in which Mr Palemar has been functioning in the district as a caretaker minister. He has been infamous for his favouratism, nepotism . This is high time he realises that this is a democracy and Mangaloreans are not dumb.

One can certainly say that concreting of the road was taken up to help the builders and not to improve roads. It is just an eye wash saying it a joint venture. If foundation for the tar roads had been done properly the roads would not have been this bad. The builders do not take up taring work but they will of concreting.

We have such ministers who sell the entire districts money for development to help some builders. What an idea Palemarji?

It is really tragic situation that if the roads are built to help some developers. Why cant congress complaint to lokayuktha if it finds fishy? Congress just want to just create issue of it and do nothing. Why cant it take initiative to do good and something constructive.

Even in Bangalore near to Sadahalli roads were built of international standard. Even here major portion of money was given by Govt.

Now builders are clever. They know how to get business and work to be done during downtime utilizing tax money.

Palemars move to repair the roads with the builders is not in the interest of General Public. It is for the gain of the builders where there plots/flats can be sold. Just make a trip round mangalore you will know how the roads of Mangalore are. I ask the readers to go to Shaktinagar from Bikarankatte and you will find Concerte road laid where only few vehicles are moving. When the MCC has no interest to lay good roads in the city. How come A concrete Road is there in Shakti Nagar (Way to Godown of Baharth Gas)

The CM from south Kanara and Palemar is from Mangalore and what we have is bad narrow roads all over south kanara. The CM and Palemar has done nothing on the NH 48 that has been pending at maripalla and BrhmaraKutalu. To see the conditions of city roads you need to see the Jyoti circle. The road at main entrance to the city is in a such conditions and then what more you expect. This is a good move to use private builders to develop roads but then why pay taxes and stamp duty at the prescribed rate. The minister can make a fresh prescibed slab for stamp duty and registration charges. The Mangalore registrar office is collecting crores every day and the government is doing nothing for the people.

Dear Vijay Kumar Shettre, Mr. Palemar is basically a real estate developer and a builder he became MLA and Minister afterwards so what is the surprise he is all along working for the betterment of real estate developers and Builders. He managed to buy lot of lands and made good roads to their properties he is on top of his business including illigal sand business. You lost your seat in Surthkal and have no job to do right now but during congress ruling in MCC also lot of irregularities happened some of them suspended on corrouption issues. Mr. Palemar warned MCC Engineers and officers soon after becoming Minister he also warned to terminate the staff who are not performing but later on they are done good job in the areas of his interest. So this is the way our elected representative works. May god help the poor citizens to live with bad roads and infrastructures.

Let the minister and the concerned PWD authorities assess the condition of road that leads to the airport from Marakada onwards and from Bajpe to Kinnigoli. There are more potholes than even surfaces and yet we speak of bringing Mangalore roads to international standards. All this is a tall talk!
