Major Mishap Averted at Chennai Airport

Daijiworld Media Network

Chennai, Sep 24: A Delhi-bound private airline which had been initially been cleared for a take off, stopped on the runway in order to avoid a head on collision with an Air India flight that was just about to land, thus saving a major mishap.

Sources at the airport said that the Delhi-bound Jet was taxiing on the runway at about 8.40am. At the same time the Chennai bound Air India flight from Delhi was given landing permission from the Air Traffic Control.

Airport authorities have sought for an explanation from the Jet Airways aircraft for stopping on the runway despite being given the take off signal.

The pilot of the AI flight was quickly alerted by the ATC as the Jet was still on the runway.
