Dubai, Sep 25: Konkani music lovers and theatre enthusiasts can witness a quality entertainment fiesta on Friday September 30 at Sheikh Rashid Auditorium, Indian High School, Karama.

The event titled 'Ek Saanz Mazechi' will give an opportunity to 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore’ winners from 2008 and 2010 to display their talent.

Vinay Lewis the winner of 2008, and Donald Correa, the first runner-up, along with 2010 male winner Ivan Fernandes, runner-up Warren D’Souza, as well as 2010 female winner Gladys Lorena, and runner-up Preema Pinto, will entertain the crowd with some hit Konkani songs intheir charming and mesmerizing the voices. The young talents have worked hard to reach the top of ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore’, which is known as a prestigious platform for talented Konkani singers.

About the artistes:

Ivan Fernandes (UAE): 

It is not out of place to say music runs in the veins of Ivan Fernandes as he has inherited his singing talent from his mother Laeticia Fernandes, a well-known teacher in Ferar, now relocated to Kulshekar parish.  He was exposed to Konkani music at an early age and continued his penchant for singing during his college days.  He has participated in various singing competitions including those conducted by Konkan Natak Sabha and  inter-collegiate singing competitions.  During his college days he was a leading vocalist for some of the best music bands of Mangalore such as ‘Seventh Galaxy’ and ‘Cosmic Rays’.  Ivan has actively participated in various Konkani and Kannada singing competitions held in UAE. He had secured first place in the mixed duet at the ‘Konkani Prathibha’ competition in 2006 conducted by Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha. Ivan is winner of 'Gulf Voice of Managlore 2010' in the ‘male’ category.

Gladys Lorena (Kuwait):

Talented singer Gladys has a charming voice and has lent her voice to several audio albums and musical nites. She hails from Jeppu Parish. Presently working in Kuwait, Gladys is winner of 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore - 2011' in the ‘female’ category.

Warren D’Souza (Kuwait):  

A BCom graduate, Warren, who works for Securities Group Kuwait as an accountant, had his education in Kuwait and Mangalore.  He started singing after drawing inspiration from his older sister Winishia Laila Fernandes who used to sing in church and in various singing competitions. He started singing in competitions at the age of 10 beginning with a church feast in Vamanjoor parish and never stopped after that.  He began to show his singing talent in competitions during his college days and won prizes in singing in various competitions.

Preema Mariette Pinto (nee Menezes), Doha - Qatar: 

Preema, 29, was born and brought up in Hosabettu, Moodbidri, and is a home maker.  She comes from a musically-oriented family and one can say music is an inseparable part of her life. Preema says she has inherited her singing talent from her parents.  Her father was a choir master and had trained her in singing after she joined the choir when she was in Class 7.  Fortunately for her, her husband Naveen Canute Pinto is also musically inclined and was a singer.  Her brothers and sisters are also singers of repute. Preema has sung for a music band and also for some Konkani devotional albums.  She is the runner-up of ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore 2010’ in the ‘female’ category.

Vinay Lewis, India (ex-Kuwait):

For 36-year-old Vinay Lewis, singing is a passion and whenever gets the opportunity he lends his voice for shows and other events. In the year 2000, he won the coveted 'Super Singer of the Year - 2000' contest held by Maharastra Konkan Association in Mumbai.

He has won several prizes in singing contests right from his childhood. He has also participated and won prizes in college and inter-collegiate level contests.

After winning the coveted ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore 2008’ title he has lent his voice to several audio albums and musical nites. Currently he is running his own music business in India.


Donald Correa, UAE:

Donald Correa, fondly known as ‘Dony’, is a familiar face in the entertainment world. Being an acclaimed Mangalorean singer and first runner-up of ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore-I’ , he is popularly recognized as a commended performer with a  strong stage presence and ability to keep the audience spell bound.

Hailing from Pernal parish, he is a multi-talented young artiste, proficient in acting, singing and compering. He has also lent his melodious voice to a few Konkani albums. Dony is an enthusiastic and humble personality and has been a part of several successful musical shows in the UAE. He was also responsible for organizing the first ever ‘Konkani Antakshari’ in the UAE successfully

Apart from the musical evening there will be an award winning Konkani play written by legend Cha Fra Dcosta and enacted by a professional troupe from Mangalore under the leadership of Stany Alvares.

The event will start at sharp 6.00 pm as there is no felicitation programme or speeches from guests. It's an evening of pure entertainment.
