Kerala legislators to be subject to performance audit

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 25 (IANS) For the first time in the history of the Kerala assembly, the performance of all legislators would be subject to a performance audit, Speaker G. Karthikeyan said here Sunday.

"Details such as the legislators' attendance, how many questions were asked and how many calling attention motions were raised will be put up on the assembly's website," Karthikeyan told reporters while announcing the schedule of the 13th Kerala assembly's second session that begins Monday.

Karthikeyan said this new system will benefit the legislators. "This is some sort of mechanism for every legislator to find out his performance in the assembly. I am sure this would be able to raise the level of each legislator."

The Kerala assembly has 140 elected members, including the speaker, and one nominated Anglo-Indian member.
