Udupi, Feb 28: A grand celebration marked the inauguration of Udupi District Catering Owners' Association herein Green Acres in Laxminagara on Tuesday February 27.
Sri Sri Eesha Vittaldas Swamiji of Kemar Sandeepani Math and Msgr Ferdinand Gonsalves, vicar general diocese of Udupi inaugurated the association by lighting the lamp.
In his inaugural blessing address, Sri Sri Esha Vittaldas Swamiji said, "Today marks the establishment of a new union. I extend my heartfelt wishes for the success and prosperity of this association. As we embark on this journey, let us illuminate the path ahead, dispelling the darkness that surrounds us. May we strive to be a beacon of light for others.
“The objectives of this association are noble, aimed at uplifting the community through initiatives such as providing insurance and other governmental schemes for catering owners and workers. In today's society, we witness a concerning rise in the culture of disposability, which begins at a young age. Our busy lifestyles often lead us astray, and those lacking patience find themselves suffering in various aspects of life. It is imperative that we break free from this cycle of consumption and waste.
“Food holds immense significance—it is not merely sustenance but a sacred offering. Let us treat the act of serving food as a yajna, imbued with goodness and compassion. May this association serve as a bridge, extending assistance to the needy among us and supporting talented but underprivileged children in their educational pursuits.
“In life, let us strive to embrace positivity and inner peace. By cultivating a positive mindset and extending a helping hand to others, we can sow the seeds of happiness and fulfillment. Let us also be mindful of the preciousness of food and refrain from wastefulness. Whenever we encounter excess food, let us turn it into an opportunity to alleviate hunger by donating it to those in need,” he said.
Msgr Ferdinand Gonsalves, vicar general of the diocese of Udupi, emphasized in his message, "Food is essential for every living being, including humans, as it sustains life. It is crucial for humans to receive the necessary nutrition to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I extend my best wishes to this organization and hope it becomes a welcoming association working towards a shared objective.
“May the food prepared by caterers be infused with the love and care of a mother, providing nutritious sustenance to consumers. Let all caterers prioritize quality and refrain from using artificial flavourings and colours. Additionally, I kindly urge all servers to offer food with a warm and welcoming smile. May the owners of these establishments thrive and prosper, earning commendable profits,” he said.
Deepak Kotian, president of the DK District Catering Owners' Association, reflected in his address, "Five years ago, we initiated the catering association in Dakshina Kannada. Initially, we encountered numerous differences among ourselves. However, over the past five years since the establishment of the association, we have successfully overcome these challenges and are now leading the association in an admirable manner. The association provides us with unity and support during times of trouble.
“Despite facing only around 100 days of active business annually, we are obligated to pay taxes for the entire year. However, following our association's demand for relaxation, we have been granted some relief in this regard. It is concerning to note the presence of numerous unauthorized catering services operating without paying taxes or adhering to government regulations. It is imperative that we exert pressure on the government to crack down on these unauthorized operations and enforce compliance with regulations,” he said.
In his presidential address, Naveen Amin Shankerpura, president of the Udupi District Catering Owners' Association, remarked, "Just nine months ago, we faced numerous internal differences. However, through the initiative of our advisory members, who diligently visited the households of every catering owner, we have successfully inaugurated the association today. While challenges may arise, it is our responsibility to seek out solutions. We are committed to addressing issues such as rate differentiations gradually and resolving other challenges that lie ahead.
“Additionally, there are still many catering owners who have not yet joined the association. We are dedicated to extending our outreach efforts and encouraging their participation. Furthermore, we intend to welcome vegetarian catering owners into the association in the near future,” he said.
