UP : Police Kill Truck Driver for Refusing to Pay Bribe

Lucknow, Sep 26: For just Rs 500 as bribe, a truck driver was beaten to death by Road Transport Officials (RTO)  Chandauli district around 300 kms from Lucknow on Monday.

Further, the panicked RTO officials also tried to cover up the case by dumping the body in a nearby river. However, the alarm raised by the cleaner of the truck caught attention of the villagers and other vehicles passing by thus exposing the officials.

However, ARTO, Chandauli, Radhey Shyam denied that employees of his office led by Passengers Goods Officer, Mohd Arif had beaten up the truck driver to death. “The truck driver was a heart patient and he died of cardiac arrest when he was signaled by the team to show papers of the truck and other documents,” he said.

As per reports, Anant Lal Gupta was driving the  truck (UP 65 AT7251), with Ashwini his son as cleaner in the same vehicle on Monday. The truck was carrying medicines from Ghaziabad to Kolkata. At Chandauli on National Highway-2 near Syed Raja locality, the truck was signalled to stop by RTO officials. Ashwini claimed that his father who was driving the vehicle showed all the papers which were in order. Later, on charges of overweight, the truck was taken to a Puja Weighing Machine. Despite everything in order the RTO officials demanded Rs 1000.

The driver was willing to pay Rs 500. Refusal of the driver invited the fury of the RTO officials and they started thrashing him. However, the driver died due to their beating. Sensing trouble the RTO officials threw the driver’s body in the truck and moved towards Syed Raja to dump it in the river Karmanassa. However, as Ashwani raised an alarm, some locals, including women, joined him. Soon several villagers came on the road and chased the truck. Sensing danger, the RTO men abandoned the truck and escaped.

After that locals and other truck drivers blocked the highway. Long quees of trucks upto 8 kms were seen on the highway. The mob turned violent and started stone pelting. Police reached the scene and resorted to lathi charge. Later a FIR, including passenger goods officer of RTO, Mohd Arif was lodged.

But with respect to your thoughts, they are worse than a illiterate. Feel pity for the guy who lost his life and his family and pray for them. Nagesh Nayak something is wrong with your brain for sure or suffering from thinking disability. Trusk drivers murder, RTO bribe and Italian politics are not in line. Best bet is go in corrupt politics to make India a 100% corrupt place with your blessings.

This is a brutal side of corruption by RTOs. We can hardly find a honest, a gentleman RTO officer. Because, they paid a hefty amount under the table to "Reach that Post". If in any RT office, anybody gets work done without paying bribe, please share your views.

Freedom of expression is good, but if the expression is always vitriolic, then it is time to control it. Nagesh Nayakji....I think you need to a little more responsible while commenting. Not everybody is as learned as you are. This is where my opinion that one Lokpal bill or one Lokaukth is not going to make any difference in the dirty field of corruption in our country. Each one of us need to change. It is such a sad state of affairs, that the police who are there to safeguard us are the ones who are harming and killing us. Let us shun petty politics and join hands to strengthen our country and our democracy. There are black sheep in every political party. Weed them out by rejecting them in the next election. Let us bring in a change from inside of us. The country is in a bad state and we are the ones who can make the change.

    These animals deserve no mercy,
but an open ution by throwing
stones at them by the public.
    How far humanity has deteriorated
    in greed-selfishness and bloodshed?
The police will never dare to treat a powerful person like this,
but had the evil confidence to
beat and kill a defenceless poor person, like killing a worm.

wah!!! what a pity?what a fun?refusing to pay bribe to the government officials by the poor driver-bottom line is beaten to death. This is what we expect from the elected government/representatives/police personnel.what a shameful, cowardly and inhumane act?Responsible Police officers should be given same treatment/should be hanged for insisting for bribe as that of poor driver. In the name of bribe who lost the precious life? none other than poor driver, breadwinner for his family. Now who will feed his family?.Now justice for the corrupt police officers and injustice for the poor driver and his family.May his departed soul rest in eternal peace. That is my say under the given circumstance
