Udupi, Mar 1: Udupi police have arrested seven individuals in connection with the abduction of seven fishermen during a deep-sea fishing activity on February 26-27. A formal complaint was lodged at Malpe police station regarding the incident.
The arrested suspects are identified as Subramannya Kharvi (34), Ragavendra Kharvi (38), Harish Narayana Kharvi (40), Nagesh Narayana (42), Gopal Madav (38), Santhos Devayya (43), and Lakshman (50) from Bhatkala.
The accused will be presented before the judge. They stand accused of robbing and abducting fishermen aboard a boat named Krishnananda.
The incident occurred when the boat's net became entangled with the boat fan, causing it to stall. The perpetrators, taking advantage of the situation, launched a sudden attack on the fishermen, dragging the boat ashore. Subsequently, they abducted the fishermen and made off with approximately Rs 8 lacs worth of fish and 7,500 liters of diesel valued at Rs. 5,76,700, which was stored in the boat. The fishermen were taken hostage during the ordeal.
