Kasargod, Sep 27:
Fire broke out in a shop selling upholstery near the new bus stand here on Tuesday September 27 at around 10 am, causing huge loss of several lacs of rupees.

Shaliya Bed Centre, belonging to Uday Kumar located at Thruvatth Ciramic Road here, was completely gutted after flames engulfed the shop. Cotton beds kept inside turned to ashes.

It is suspected that the fire was sparked off by the welding work that was going on at the shop at the time of the incident.

Fire squads rushed to the spot immediately. It took them nearly an hour to douse the fire. A large crowd gathered at the site and helped the firefighters.

Two fire brigade from Kasargod and one fire engine rom Uppala doused the fire, while the locals gathered threw few beds outside the shop even though the shop is completely charred.

As the shop is located beside the National Highway, smoke surrounded the area disrupting traffic for some time.

The exact extent of the the loss is yet to be ascertained. A case in this regard has been registered in Kasargod city police station.
