Ranchi, Sep 27 (IANS): A woman in her 20s was forced to drink poison on gunpoint by a man here as she had spurned her advances, police said Tuesday.

Rani (name changed), a resident of Pokhra area of Ranchi, was being harassed by Munna, who lived nearby.

"Munna used to harass me. On Friday, when I was going to my tuition class, Munna stopped me and put revolver on my belly. He then gave me a drink and threatned that he will kill me if I did not consume it," she said.

She was hospitalised soon after, but was discharged Monday.

The youth is absconding, a police officer said.

In another incident, a rape victim was barred by her school from attending classes in Khuti district.

The woman was raped by four youths Thursday, all of whom were arrested after she lodged a police complaint.

However, when she went to school the next day, she was stopped from entering.

Jharkhand's Human Resource Development Minister Baijnath Ram Tuesday said he had asked the local administration to submit a report on the incident.

"Based on the report, appropriate action will be taken against the guilty," he said.
