Afzal Guru Resolution to Wait Till Next Assembly Session


Srinagar, Sep 28 (IANS): A resolution seeking clemency for 2001 parliament attack covict Afzal Guru could not come up for discussion in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly Wednesday as the house was adjourned for the day after a clash between Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators.

As the present assembly session ends Oct 4, the resolution tabled by independent legislator Engineer Rashid will now be taken up in the next session.

Congress and BJP legislators Wednesday clashed near the speaker's podium over alleged corruption by some BJP members who had voted against the party whip during the last legislative council elections. The speaker then adjourned the house till Thursday.

The resolution will now be taken up in the next session. The present session ends Oct 4.
